Montana Tech Graduate School - Graduation Deadlines

Graduation Canvas Course

The Graduate School requires a Canvas course tailored for those preparing to graduate (excludes distance programs, MPEM). It is the students responsibility to stay informed about all graduation deadlines and paperwork. Once you have submitted your completed degree application, you will receive an official invitation to join the course.

Begin Graduate Defense Scheduling & Planning (as early as possible)

August 25th, 2025

Draft thesis/paper/product due to committee chair

Nov 7th, 2025

Draft thesis/paper/product due to committee members

Nov 14th, 2025

Final thesis/paper/product due to committee members

Nov 21st, 2025

Draft thesis/paper/product submitted to the Graduate School for preliminary format review

Nov 21st, 2025

Final Graduation Deadlines (Required - missing items may postpone degree conferral)

Announce Graduate Defense: Send defense information to the Graduate School for official announcement campus wide (at least 2 weeks prior to defense)

Nov 21st, 2025

Last day to defend Graduate thesis/paper/product

Dec 5th, 2025

Final thesis/paper/product & all required paperwork submitted

Dec 12th, 2025

Petition to the Graduate Dean

If you cannot meet the graduation deadlines outlined a Petition to the Graduate Dean form needs to be submitted to the graduate school via gradschool@mtech.edu. Extensions will be granted only in exceptional circumstances.
